April: What’s New and What’s in the Works

You’ll notice that we’ve switched the frequency of our product update from monthly to quarterly. We’re doing this to give a broader perspective to the work we’ve accomplished. Also, new features and products will be discussed in separate blog & social posts, providing an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the exciting things to come. Subscribe to PWK to stay in the know. Now onto the things we’ve accomplished in the past quarter:

Expanded Coverage Options

Earlier this year we launched Clear Choice plans on our CDMA network, improving coverage options for our members. Previously these new plans were only available on our GSM network.

Our new smart coverage checker automatically picks the best network for you based on your device choice and home area.

Currently we’re not supporting bring-your-own-phone (BYOP) devices on our CDMA network but we’re working to bring that capability to you in the future!

Faster Software Upgrades

Our new technical architecture on our Clear Choice plans promised to bring faster and more frequent system software upgrades to our newer devices. That promise has largely been fulfilled as we saw Android 7.0 Nougat delivered to five devices — the Moto G4, Moto G4 Play, Moto Z, Moto Z Play and Nexus 6. We also helped deliver security patches to twelve different devices and maintained regular Republic App updates to improve voicemail, conference calls and messaging functionality. You can find a catalogue of information on the latest software for your device here.

Anywhere Beta

We continued to expand the size of our Republic Anywhere beta program.  Republic Anywhere is a collection of apps that allows you to access your messaging capabilities from multiple devices.

We sync your messages across laptops, tablets and your phone so you’ll always have your latest messages no matter what device you’re using.

Currently running on MacOS and Windows computers with a companion Android app for your device. Future iterations will include other device platforms and also roll in calling 🙂

Better Help

We improved the look and searchability of our Help page. Providing easier and more organized access to the documentation, guides and community support that underpins our entire product and service offerings.

Data Notifications & Usage

We’ve relaunched an improved data notification feature on our Clear Choice and Refund Plans. We’ll now inform users when they’ve used 75, 90, 95 and 100% of their monthly cellular data allotment.

Now you can also see how much data each line uses on your monthly invoice.

Check it out and make sure you’re plan is sized correctly for your usage.

New Phones, Promos and Price Drops

We launched two great new mid-tier phones this past quarter. The fantastic new Moto G5 Plus starting at $229 and the Moto G4 Play available for $149.  We’ve permanently dropped $100 off the Samsung S7 and S7 Edge devices now available for $599 and $699 respectively. We also ran limited time price promotions ranging from $20 $200 off select devices and we also fielded free accessory with purchase offers. Keep tabs on our blog, social, and community for new offers!

That’s it for the first quarter of 2017. It’s an exciting time in the mobile industry and we expect to have more to share on our progress over the coming quarters. As always feel free to leave comments to let us know your thoughts.

    1. We don’t have an official launch date yet, but we’re making some pretty great progress on it. Keep an eye out – we’ll announce when we have more news!

    1. Adding more phones is always something we’re looking into! We love to add variety. In addition to agreements with all partners involved (manufacturers, cell service partners, etc.), it takes a lot of testing to be sure phones work excellently on Republic’s service. We always pass this feedback along to our Product team so they know which phones to look into. While there are no specifics at this time for any additional phones, keep an eye out – as soon as we’re able to, we’ll announce what’s coming next to Republic. Thank you for the feedback! It’s helpful 🙂

    1. We’re hoping it will be here soon! It looks like it’s continuing to roll out on carrier-specific devices, so hopefully the unlocked roll out isn’t far behind. Stay tuned to Samsung’s updates for the latest.

  1. Is it possible for phones that work on both CDMA and GSM to be on both. In other words, if I leave GSM area and enter a CDMA area, I would hypothetically “handover” to CDMA. Is this technologically feasible.
