      1. Are you talking about the sale from $349 to $299, or is there another one that–like these–won’t show until after billing info is entered? Just wondering since I too am waiting for it to go on sale. The moto X was cheaper than the $299 directly from Motorola before it sold out.

        1. The standard $50 discount to $299 in the phone list. It will probably be cheaper eventually, but then it will also likely sell out quickly, ’cause it will be at EOL. Depends if you feel like waiting.

    1. I bought the Pure from Best Buy about a month ago. Cost $249 for 64G, bamboo back. Activated two weeks now and love it. Turbo charge is great and screen super sharp. Good sound and not uncomfortable in the hand. Previously had the Moto X 1st generation.

  1. You guys might want to proofread your emails. The email said the Z Play was $150 off for a price of $299, though the link in that email leads to this page, which says it’s $50 off for a price of $399. Quite a huge difference. Both say the deals start on 2/19.

    1. Hi Raymond! In our excitement about all the promos we have coming up, we accidentally made a typo in the email you received. We sent a follow up email to clarify our mistake. Sorry for the confusion! The info here in the blog is correct.

        1. oh for the love of all things holy, cry a river. You don’t have to take advantage of any of the promotions. They corrected it, you’re out of luck. Let me call that WAHMBULANCE for you.

          1. I myself was trying to find the $150 discount since February 19. RW has made some other errors, one which I brought to there attention. They need to do better proof reading.

          2. What can we say – we’re humans. We make mistakes. But we always do our best to correct them in an informative and timely way. That’s why we sent out the follow-up email with clarifications for folks that received the incorrect price listing, and updated our info to be correct. Again, so sorry for the confusion here. These are still some great offers on the phones, and I’d be happy to answer any questions you might have 🙂 just let me know!

          3. I have sent answers to the same question FOUR times and never got ONE response. In doing so and your not responding, I have lost hundreds of dollars.

          4. That should have read “I have sent REQUESTS for the same QUESTION FOUR TIMES and never get a response.” LOL

          5. Ok Mr Smarmy. $150 price error on a phone (and similar past errors) is not equivalent to a simple misspelling of a commonly misspelled word.

          6. my apologies. I have had issues with such things myself. forgive me for focusing on letter of the law if you will, opposed to the spirit of it. sometimes a smart arse like myself is a man of many hats and wears a dumb arse one too… ; )

  2. Are there any phones left for the Legacy plans? My wife and I have the $10 unlimited Talk/Text/Wifi, and her phone is getting close to needing to be replaced.

    1. I’m interested in this also. I got an email last week that said you could upgrade your phone and keep your same coverage. When I tried to buy a new phone, it tried to make me get a new plan.

        1. Not necessarily, unfortunately. Again, from the FAQ:

Will my coverage change if I upgrade to a 3.0 phone?

If you purchase a phone from us, your coverage will be optimized based on your location and the phone you choose, but it may not necessarily be the same as it is currently. However, your coverage will be different if you choose to bring your own phone. For more information, please read @republic_wireless_coverage***

          1. Hey Chuck, sorry for the confusion that our email caused. We just wanted to confirm what @tho_as:disqus said: when we were referring to coverage, we mean your actual cellular signal. We did not mean to imply that your plan would be transferable to 3.0 devices because we unfortunately are not able to do that. Again, sorry for the confusion here!

      1. For a moment, it struck me as implying I could keep my same plan, too. But I quickly realized that wasn’t the case.

But really, Republic, what’s the point in saying we can keep the same coverage? Is that typically a risk when upgrading to a new phone??

      2. I thought the e-mail about keeping the same plan – Refund Plan in my case – was confusing and I didn’t understand if it really met I could stay on the Refund Plan with a new phone. I don’t want to pay $5 – $6 a month more to get an extra half GB that I won’t use anyway.

    2. Has anyone heard about phones for the Legacy plan? I see old phones available on Ebay for sure… Once my Moto X2 goes I will be going to Google Fi, they are the only ones that have a rebate plan

      1. Hey Jimmie, unfortunately we are sold out of all the phones that are eligible to use on our Refund plans, so the only available options would be used Republic phones. We’d be sad to see you go, but we want you to do what’s best for you! Please let us know if you have any questions.

    3. Ebay is probably yer best bet, am looking at a used moto e 2nd generation for $70, a bit less than $75 shipped, if ya wanna keep yer legacy 1.0/2.0 plan. There might be other phones as well, but you can check that out on your own.

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/REPUBLIC-WIRELESS-MOTOROLA-MOTO-E-8GB-2ND-GEN-SMARTPHONE-BLACK-SCORCHING-/381929434564?hash=item58ecc4adc4:g:hiYAAOSwv-NWYfI~

The Republic Wireless 3.0 FAQ https://community.republicwireless.com/docs/DOC-2912-republic-wireless-30-faqs states which Republic Wireless phones are eligible for the 1.0 and 2.0 plans and a statement that Republic is not planning to stop supporting them.

I’d get busy though… I’ve got my spare moto e… do you?

    4. I’m interested in this also. If the new phones support the old plan, then I’ll buy it in a heartbeat and stay with RW. The whole reason I supported RW from the start was because of their plan. I got an email last week that said you
could upgrade your phone and keep your same coverage. I wish RW would confirm that.

        1. Thank you Chuck for taking time to reply. I am aware of the new 3.0 phones not working on old 1.0 plans.

However, the email I received was very misleading stating, “If you’ve been waiting to get one of our new phones from Samsung, LG, Huawei, or Moto, but want to keep the same coverage you currently have, here’s a full list of newly compatible phones:”

I understand that to acquire new customers and keep a select few happy, you decided to move away from the ROM Build and change the pricing. But it was entirely in RW hands to provide their legacy customers with the same pricing on their new devices. Instead, you turned your backs on the very customers that supported your business model in the start. It filled a gap and void in the mass market, such as my mother, father, and myself who did not need fancy phones and expensive plans. They just need to make calls once in a while and do not need WiFi or data. As for me, a millennial on a tight budget, I am lucky to be around WiFi for all my data and cell calls between my job and home. We were the typical RW users from the start. Now all three of us have been priced out, since neither of us can upgrade due to your new pricing.

You are just doing your job, but would appreciate it if it gets passed on to the executives above. I am surviving on my broken down old Moto G Gen 1.

          1. I am not affiliated with Republic Wireless in any way, other than as a customer, and former evangelist (prior to the 3.0 phones/plans).

I love my $12.12 monthly Republic Wireless Bill, and I’ll hang with Republic as long as I can keep it.

To be honest, I am not seeing a whole lot of advantages to the 3.0 plans over the big boys. What am I missing?

          2. Sorry Chuck. Your responses sounded as if you were from RW. I love my $12 monthly bill also. Wish we could have been “grandfathered” at that price point on the new devices. I think I am in a similar situation as you, I’ll stick with RW as long as I can.

          3. Here here! Republic, please bring back the refund plan. I recently upgraded to the Moto X Pure (awesome phone) and I’m still with you on the $20 1GB plan. But as a lot of people are saying, the legacy plans are what attracted us to Republic in the first place. I really hate paying for data I know I’ll never use.

      1. Hey there, sorry for the confusion in the email. I just wanted to clarify – when we say “coverage,” we are referring to your actual cell signal coverage. Unfortunately, we are not able to support your current plan on our new devices. Please let me know if you have any further questions about this!

    1. probably worth contacting them to see if they will match the deal, a lot of companies will do that kind of thing if within a month or so.

      1. Thanks Anna. Ticket number 1067575.

I received a reply from Aila this afternoon. But, the response isn’t very clear. I think it says that a credit will be issued when the promo starts on 2/19.

  3. When did republic wireless change the Plan Prices. They used to have $5 and $10 plans and now i don’t see them. The other plans with whatever gigs they give are very over priced compared to most cell phone company’s. Sure you can get a $20 plan but any person who uses data knows those gigs that they give are not sufficient this day in age. I tried the 4 gig one which was $45 and that data went within a few hours of online use. Plus this day in age most everyone uses data on their phone. even teens and kids use it for Skype / snapchat / whatever the case. In order to do that with a RW phone plan you would have to pay the $90 plan which you only get 10 gb then. for that price you can go to sprint and get unlimited plan. What am i missing?

    1. I agree, I have been with RW ever since they were Beta, and the plans were set low with unlimited data and worked off the Sprint network, in fact I came over from the Sprint network to them. It has been good until the new phones come out. The new phones do not work off the same network and at first when I ordered a new Moto X Pure and brought it to RW, I could not even get signal at my home or the neighboring town, I had to drive 15 min just to get a signal with new phones. Now they are saying they have phones that are set up for this area but I am not sure what to believe. They also have changed the plans I have always had a unlimited talk text and data for $20/month, but now that plan is not even available. I have kept track of my data usage and work every day on being on wifi when ever possible to keep it down. I average about 2.5gb data per month if I just use web, no videos, and no music, which are some of the reasons to have a smart phone. So checking around your right Sprint has a unlimited talk text and data for $50 first line, $40 Second Line and so forth. What has happened Republic, the new Towers are costing customers and causing our cost to go up monthly. Did you guys decide that you were not wanting to take care of your Legacy customers, by taking away the unlimited talk/text/Wifi, and unlimited Talk/text, we are why the company has grown so fast. I personally was able to get over 300 people to convert to RW just for the reason of unlimited talk/text/data for $20/mo and many of these people are my friends and now they are very upset because of the changes you have made and not taken into affect the reason you have the customers in the first place. We all know that you are not here for customer service, so that is why we have all agreed to keep the plans at a low cost, because you keep your overhead down by not having a call number or good help. Its up to us to use email and chat boxes to communicate. It is not a easy method for most people, but we mange through it. But really get a grip on what is going on with changing company and using different frequencies. By doing this now all of use who live in the areas that use the Sprint towers now have no service. I bought a Moto X Pure and had to return it in two days after not being able to get signal in our area where my old phone worked just fine. The worse part about it, was the lack of information, it stated it was a RW phone and would work just like my old one, but I was sure taken for a ride on that one. RW you need to change your website to clarify, demystify and be more considerate to your original customers. Secrets about who’s towers your running off of, need to be reviled like they were in the beginning. But who wants to tell they are on a lesser quality tower and advertise that, I am sure you don’t but you need to because I know a lot of angry people right now over your phones and we would like to have some changes to get things back on track the way they were. I have checked for phones available everywhere and it seems very hopeless right now for any thing on the horizon to work through RW and work on our original towers. RW PLEASE REPLY

    2. 4G of data? i use data quite a bit, i used it non stop while listening to pandora and using gps apps and playing games while being all over rural areas and only used just over 1G on the highest months…

      1. yeah certain apps use less data to run such as pandora and depending on what game you use they don’t use data unless you are playing an online game and even then it is not that much data use. The app i used was Twitch which is a Live streaming app so it was more data heavy use. Same with apps like kids use Skype and such. Those are going to use allot more data faster. Like i said i was just more curious about the pricing plans and why they are charging so much for so little data. They advertise as a great phone company for low affordable pricing, but yet they have a $90 plan. To me that is not low or affordable especially when you can go to sprint and get unlimited plans for that. I am not knocking RW because i have been using them for the past 3 years, but i have to be honest with my concerns and the direction they are heading.

    3. The Republic service is designed to use Wifi whenever it’s available with automatic handovers to the cell network when Wifi is not available. Since I’m home a lot, I never use more than a half GB of cell data in a month. If you stream video over a cell network, IMO you’re with the wrong provider.

The major providers have lowered prices dramatically on unlimited data plans, which would probably be better for people who need that. Republic, please bring back the refund plan for people like me!

      1. That’s what i’m wondering, if someone does use those apps that use allot of data or whatnot and they can unlimited plans cheaper, then why is RW still have high priced plans? That’s what i’m confused about. Also i don’t stream i just happened to use an app that uses allot of data one time and it ate up all my data in short period of time. I also don’t know why they changed their price plans to get rid of $5 and $10 plans. That was the reason why i switched to RW in the first place.

        1. I’m with you. I don’t know why Republic changed from their original business plan of offering low-priced service based on Wi-Fi.

However I will say if you used up your higher data plan that quickly then if you were on one of the $5 or $10 plans you would have used up your data even more quickly. In fact I think those plans didn’t even offer data in the first place.

          1. Yeah they did not offer data, Only reason i used the data plan on my phone was because my home internet was out for a week so i changed my phone plan for the time being. I don’t intend on using the data anymore and wish i could go back to the $10 plan but they no longer have that. Kinda shame really. If you add up buying a phone that works with republic wireless / add up your plan then things start to add up and i will be honest it’s not the best quality by any means. I’m not trying to complain or sound like they are a bad company, because i do like RW and like what they do, but at the same time they are moving away from what they stood for in the first place ( decent , affordable phone plans ).

          2. Well they’re still the best carrier for me. There’s nowhere else I can get a $20 plan with enough data to handle my needs. They have decent customer service and the quality has gotten much better than it was before.

My wife and I got two Moto X Pure phones from Republic not too long ago for a good price. They’re unlocked so we can take them anywhere we want. But for now I have no intention on leaving Republic.

      1. Fantastic! Bought 2 Moto G4’s for 2 sons last fall and they love ’em. I finally decided to treat myself. Thank you!

  5. I’m interested in getting one of these, but LOVE the plan I have, originally$25/month for 1Gb data, but whatever isn’t used, get a refund, so my bills are really only$13-$14/month cuz I’m on WiFi 86-92% of the time. How do I keep my plan AND get one of these phones and swap them?? Do instructions on how to do that come with the phone??

      1. Are there ANY new phones available for the refund plan? I really need an upgrade and don’t want to lose the plan I have.

          1. Sorry, I meant which Refund plan. It’s possible the Clear Choice plans will have an option that saves you a little more money. I like to ask just in case folks haven’t had a chance to look into their data usage 🙂

I will also pass along any feedback you’d like to share about why you prefer the Refund plans. Just let me know!

      1. Right now my old gen 1 phone is on CDMA, bought my husband a new phone and his changed to GSM. I want to upgrade but the GSM coverage at home is non-existent so won’t until I am sure is will be CDMA. How can I find out for sure? Thanks!

        1. How long ago did your husband buy a new phone? We recently started offering the new models on both GSM and CDMA. But we aren’t able to tell you for sure before you purchase.

          1. Just prior to Christmas we purchased a G play from Motorola (it wasn’t available on RW at that point). Motorola confirmed it would work for RW, I contacted RW and confirmed and purchased the SIM card from RW. I don’t want to purchase until I am sure it will be on CDMA. Is there anyway to change my husband’s phone over to CDMA?

          2. Whoops, somehow we missed your question here. Sorry about that! Unfortunately, not just yet. We are still working on the CDMA BYOP option. Once we are able to, we will release SIM cards for the CDMA option!

At this time, though, we’re able to ship phones that already have CDMA SIM cards in them, so if you want to purchase from us, you can certainly do so. Check our coverage page to see which phones will work in your area: http://republicwi.re/rwcoverage

  6. Well, a bit bummed. My husband just ordered me a Moto G4 for my birthday (2/19). The first one had problems and is being replaced. Should be arriving today. Now I get this email telling me they are going on sale on my birthday!

  7. Hi all 🙂 My husband and I currently have the MotoG 1st gen, and his with the refund plan, mine is the lower one ;). We both get these “storage is running low” notices quite frequently and do not want to deal with that anymore and have to go into our phones to clear and make room. I use What’s App daily, FB messenger sometimes, my husband makes YouTube videos on his. B/c he has another plan but experiences the same issues as I do, we are thinking it may be our phones. However, we are unsure and would like to know if s/o would assist us in our endeavor? If it is a phone issue, which phone of these new ones will be the most advantages for us? If a plan issue, which would be the best to avoid this issue we are having?

    THANK YOU!!!

    1. I’m pretty sure the low memory warnings are because the internal memory (either 8GB or 16GB on your phones) is getting full. This memory is where everything on your phone is stored, including pictures and video.

Unfortunately, I don’t think you can expand the memory on the MotoG 1st gen, so it might be time for an upgrade. The newer phones take much better pics and video, have better (and larger) screens, plus they are much faster.

Nowadays, most Moto phones have at least 32GB of built in memory, and many of them allow you to expand that with a relatively inexpensive add-on microSD memory chip. Some models allow up to 128GB of added memory. Just check the specs to be sure.

I’m pretty sure you’d be happy with any of the Moto phones on sale or going on sale at Republic, even the less expensive ones. Compared to what you have now, you’d be amazed.

      Cheers!

      1. Great reply, thanks so much for your help!

In regards to Refund plans – we love ’em. We think they’re awesome. Unfortunately, though, we weren’t able to keep them with the new phones. That said, I am here to take this feedback and bring it to the appropriate teams because it’s important to all of us here that we listen to our members. You guys rock, and without you, we wouldn’t be where we are today. Thank you for this feedback. I will pass it along!

        1. I have a moto x 1st gen on the $25 1gb refund plan, I bought a used 2nd gen moto x, can I keep my plan if I switch over to that phone? also If I was to purchase the Moto X pure can I keep my refund plan?

          1. You can certainly keep the Refund plan on the Moto X (2nd Gen.). You will need to choose one of the Clear Choice plans if you use the Moto X Pure, though. If you come close to using the full 1GB of data the 1GB plan will actually be $5 cheaper for you 🙂 it’s $20 for 1GB. Here’s a link to the plans: http://republicwi.re/21t7Phe

        2. Yes need the refund plan back. I have told several people and they looked into buying phone and found out they no longer have it for new phones. We also lost that on one of our phones that we had to replace last week.

      2. THANK YOU VERY MUCH imabbb for your valuable feed back, I appreciate it 🙂 I had a feeling that may be the reason 🙂

    2. If you select “storage space running out” alert. Select “Download” delete all unwanted pics, video, etc you viewed mainly from WhatsApp. All the garbage people send you from WhatsApp tends to accumulate in the Download app. This will free up some space. Also look in your Pictures and Video from the same Storage Space Running Out alert and deleted some unwanted pics and videos. Clear you Cached Data at the same alert.

      1. Thanks @disqus_aBlfoUT5LA:disqus. I’ve never gotten the ‘storage space running out’ message so I didn’t know you could use it to find and delete unwanted stuff.

Taking the steps you mentioned to clear up space is a great solution if someone doesn’t want to upgrade their phone or can’t expand memory, especially if it means losing their legacy Republic plan.

      2. Thank you Afrique!! I am already doing what you are siggesting every time I get that message. It may be time for us to upgrade 😉

  8. OK, a “stupid” question: what’s “cell data”? Do I need it if I only plan to use internet/Skype while on WiFi? Thanks

    1. Hey! That’s not a stupid question at all 🙂 Cell data is what you use to access internet when you are not connected to WiFi. If you only intend to use internet and apps like Skype when you are connected to WiFi, then you likely do not need any cell data.

Even without cell data, you still have unlimited calls and text (including MMS texts). With our plans, if you find you’d prefer to have internet access when away from WiFi, you can easily add data to your plan on the spot. Let me know if you have more questions!

  9. Will any of these phones work with the refund plan? I wish you guys would support that plan with more choices. That’s what I’m waiting on.

    1. Hey, could you drop us a link to that announcement? Just checked Moto’s site and looks like the Moto G4 PLAY is on sale for the same price as ours at the moment.

I did see an article that there is a $99.99 option on Amazon (if you have a Prime account), though this version of the phone has ads on the lock screen notifications.

  10. I notice the comment “All of these phones feature a power-packed battery, high definition display, and helpful features like gesture support, Moto Assist that will read texts to you while you drive, and more.” I have been unable to verify if the Moto G 4 Plus has this Moto Driving Assist feature which will read texts while you drive. Can anyone please verify the Moto Driving Assist feature on the Moto G 4 Plus? Thank you.

Hi, I am a Republic Wireless Customer more than 4 years. I need to change my phone which was the First generation phone and want to replace with Moto G 4th generation 16GB expected to be offering at $179.00 soon. If I sign up for the new phone, how much I will get refund from my old phone and how can I return?

    1. Hey there! We don’t currently have a trade-in program, but you might consider sell your phone with a third party site, like Swappa or eBay. We have a document with some helpful tips/instructions you should check out if you’re interested in going that route: http://republicwi.re/1RkvOuH

Let me know if you have any other questions!

  12. Hi….I’ve been with RW since the beta test days….really happy with the service….wanted to upgrade my phone to a Moto G (1st gen – 3G) but I was told I couldn’t transfer the $19/mo. service I currently have even though it would still be just 3G access….wish I was on the “G” with my current plan…please contact me if this becomes an option (retaining my current service plan)…I’m an RW believer

    1. Hey Dave! Thanks for reaching out and for your ongoing support. We really appreciate it! It sounds like you’re currently using a DEFY. Unfortunately, we cannot support that plan on any of our latest devices as it is specific to the DEFY only. We do have a $20 plan that you might want to look into. Happy to discuss further if you want, just let me know! Here’s a link to our current plans: http://republicwi.re/21t7Phe

  13. Hey, if I have a plan with 3 phones, all Moto 1st or 2nd, can I change one of my phone’s to a 4th gen without having to change any of the phone plans? I have the refund plan with one phone at $20 a month but the other two at $10 each. I don’t want to lose that great pricing!

  14. I also have been with Republic since the beta tester. I am currently on the unlimited everything for $25. I guess it uses Sprint. Anyway, are there any phones that will work with this plan?

  15. I recently saw a promotion that allowed one to keep their current plan when updating to a new phone. Can someone tell me where to find details? Thanks.

    1. Hey! Sorry for the delay. It isn’t possible to use the 1.0 or 2.0 plans with the new phones. They are only able to support our Clear Choice plans (found here: http://republicwi.re/21t7Phe). If you’d like to talk about possible plan options for you, let me know! I’m always happy to help 🙂

  16. When you buy a new phone, how do you go about getting the number you currently have and cancelling the phone you currently have and it is a moto g with republic?

    1. Its been awhile since I have activated a new phone, but if memory serves, just turning on the new phone will lead you thru the steps of switching the phone number and all of the info on your old phone to the new one. At least that’s how it was in the 1.0/2.0 plan days.

      1. Chuck is correct! Jennifer, all you need to do is turn on your Republic phone and you will be prompted to activate. You will have the option to “Activate as an upgrade” which will let you move your number from your old phone to your new phone. Your old phone will automatically deactivate once the number moves to the new phone.

        1. What about switching information such as contacts to the new phone? Does that just have to be done manually, or is there a way to get those and things such as photos switched over too?

          1. Google does that automagically, assuming you backup yer contacts and stuffz to the googlemothership, which you almost certainly do. Your old phone doesn’t turn into a brick just because you have transferred your number over to a new one, you can generally retrieve anything that the porting over process missed.

          2. Yup! There’s an easy way to switch that stuff over. If you sync your phone to a Google account, it will save all your contacts and photos to your account, and when you log into the account on your new phone, you can sync everything. You can then view all your photos in the Photos app on the new phone. Check to see if your account is synced by going to Settings > Accounts > Google

          3. what about all my personalized settings, like ringtones, background photo, icon arrangement, aps, and all the other personal settings? does google transfer all those too or do I have to spend hours reseting all those?

  17. Before I join republicwireless, can I check to see if my old phone number is available? I will be changing from AT&T family plan.
