Republic Spotlight: Women in Technology (Part 2)

We’re back for week two of Republic Women Who Wow. We’re having a blast featuring the incredible women we work with every day.  This week the spotlight’s on Emmie (mother of one cat named Grandpa), Letitia (my fellow beyhive member 🐝 ), and Margaret (resident robot royalty).  Learn more about their hobbies and work at Republic below.

Margaret T.

Hi, my name is Margaret Toebes, I am a software engineer on the BTS team. I like to brighten up our dark corner of the floor with crazy calendars and free candy. I was born and raised in Cary, NC and think it is a wonderful area. I received my computer science bachelor’s degree from Carnegie Mellon, which I picked primarily for their robotics division. After college, I worked at Cisco for two years on their DX and 8800 series phones before joining the Republic Wireless team.

In my free time, I like to play video games and work on programming/robotics projects. Age of Empires 2 is my go-to game. I also stay away from playing anymore MMO’s–I lost too many hours to World of Warcraft.

On my weekends I mentor a FTC robotics team at my old high school. Actually, I was the original founder. They make me very proud.

I’m also the proud owner of a pet cockatiel, Vash, who I could not love any more. He makes a very effective alarm clock; he sings very loudly into my ears in the morning and if that isn’t enough to get me out of bed, he pecks my nose. His other talents include singing “If you’re happy and you know it”, playing peek-a-boo, and trying to steal my dinner.

What phone I’m using: My republic phone is the Nexus 6P. I could never go back to a phone without a fingerprint reader or USB-C connector. I am also regularly impressed by its battery life and camera quality.

Letitia D.

I’m originally from Charlotte, NC and have been in the triangle area since 2000, when I began college at North Carolina Central University.  After receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I enrolled in New Horizons Computer Learning school in Cary.  I’ve been with the company for seven years and have had several different roles.  Currently, I manage the Quality Assurance for the Operations teams.  I’ve been using Republic phones since launch including the Optimus, Defy, and Moto X.

What phone I’m using: The Moto X Pure is my phone of choice at the moment.

When not working I enjoy watching sports, shopping(especially shoes and bags), and anything Beyonce.

Emmie S.

Hey! What’s up? Hello. I’m Emmie and I’m the Vendor Relations Manager here at Republic. I originally hail from the mountains of NC, but I’ve called Raleigh home for almost a decade (almost in the sense that I moved to Arkansas for a year…it’s a long story). I have a dual-degree in Creative Writing and Sociology from North Carolina State University (Go Pack!) and have worked at Republic Wireless for 3.5 years.

I have an affinity for live music,  spontaneous adventures, starting but never finishing craft projects, and pop culture.

I won’t bore you with a run down of my day to day, but rather, I’ll share my favorite part about working at Republic Wireless. On a daily basis, I get to put in work that is driven by a personalized mission. At Republic, we don’t work towards one of those broad, seemingly empty statements crafted with grandiose words pulled from the thesaurus. Actually, we’re quite the opposite. We have personal and collaborative missions driving our focus day in and day out to both propel the company forward and allow us to tackle challenging, yet meaningful work.

Phone that I am rocking: Moto X Pure (and my Instagram game has never been stronger)

Next week we’ll conclude our spotlight on some of the awesome women who work here at Republic.  If you have questions for Margaret, Letitia, or Emmie drop a note below (only questions you don’t mind asking in front of your mother please).
